What is Art Psychotherapy?

In art psychotherapy the focus is on enabling the client to re-connect with their inner aliveness and creativity.

It is a form of counselling where clients can communicate and explore issues through the use of art media and imagery, in addition to talking at depth.  In particular this method offers a way to describe thoughts and feelings that are difficult to put into words. As well as releasing emotional stress, the process often opens up creative insights that foster strategies for healing and change.

NO experience or skill in art is needed to benefit. As an art psychotherapist it is my role to facilitate clients to communicate through images in a way that feels satisfying.

Art psychotherapy can help with:

  • work

  • social & parenting stress

  • anxiety & panic attacks

  • depression

  • bereavement & loss

  • binge eating & body issues

  • self esteem & relationship issues

  • unresolved trauma & abuse

  • challenging life events and transitions

  • chronic pain & stress related health issues

Experience

I am an integrative psychotherapist with experience in the NHS, voluntary sectors, and private practice. This includes ongoing work for Oxleas Women’s Psychotherapy Service and running art therapy groups in a variety of community settings.

I am a clinical member of the UK Council of Psychotherapists, and state registered as an art psychotherapist with the Health & Care Professions Council.
